Get your level 1 welding certificate

The Welding Fabrication Year 1 program introduces students to the essential welding processes, tools and procedures. You’ll learn rigging procedures, gouging and cutting, blueprint reading and basic and intermediate welding skills. Emphasis is placed on demonstrating these skills through extensive training in our workshop.

Study at our West Prince Campus

The West Prince Campus in Alberton, PEI is a Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) test centre, which gives you the option to participate in weld testing.

Upon completion of Welding 1, you may opt to continue to build on your skills in the second year of the Welding Fabrication program offered at our Georgetown Centre.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon successful completion of the program graduates will be able to:

  1. Apply appropriate distortion control and correction techniques to expansion and contraction forces when required in each welding process.
  2. Apply trade related math skills to welding and fabrication including geometry, algebra, trigonometry, area, volume, and ratio as well as calculations involving weights, loads, and lifts.
  3. Demonstrate professional and personal skills that enhance job performance and well-being.
  4. Fabricate an item from initial sketches to completion and inspection according to given standards and tolerances.
  5. Interpret blueprints and basic technical documents, reports, and specifications to inform welding projects.
  6. Safely operate equipment for Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) processes.
  7. Use safe practices in the welding environment related to personal conduct, use of tools and equipment and exposure to hazardous materials and conditions.
