Job Description

The City of Charlottetown’s Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a seasonal coordinator, with a background in biology/environmental studies, to work on urban forest restoration projects, environmental events and programs, and park maintenance. This position will coordinate and deliver the nature education program in Victoria Park and online. As part of a team, conduct urban forest restoration work and park maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and delivers a nature education program related to urban habitats, wildlife, native plants and invasive species, including tree planting, pruning and maintenance activities. 
  • Manages the maintenance on native tree arboretum and perennial beds.
  • Assists with the implementation of natural areas restoration projects (community events, planting, invasive species removal).
  • Administrative duties, including data collection, tracking, and monitoring on reforestation work, flora and fauna inventories, and other environmental monitoring.
  • Adheres to health and safety policies in the workplace.
  • Report any accidents or injuries immediately to the Recreation Department and fill out an accident report form.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education in Environmental, Forestry, or Biology studies.
  • Superb identification skills – trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, ferns, wildlife.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to conduct physical work outdoors, in all types of weather.
  • Must have the ability to work with children.
  • Valid driver’s license is an asset.
  • Basic CPR and First Aid would be an asset.
