The popular Holland Hurricanes Summer Camps will offer week-long music camps this year in partnership with Holland ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ's School of Performing Arts.
The Video Game Music and Sound Design Camp will be offered on alternating weeks for students in Grades 4-7 and Grades 8-12. SoPA Music Instructor, Craig Dodge, will guide campers through a fun-filled week of writing music and recording sound for video games. Dodge’s music and sound has been used in over 200 video games and 1,100 television shows worldwide. The first camp is for students in Grades 4-7 and begins July 4. The first camp for students in Grades 8-12 will begin July 10.
The one-week SoPA Singers Camp will be offered twice. SoPA Vocal Instructor, and recent ECMA award winner (with her group, Sirens), Sara Campbell, will teach campers solo and group singing techniques, singing in different styles of music, performance and recording, and the physics of singing. The first camp will begin July 4, with the second offering starting on July 10. The camp is open for singers in Grades 4-12.
All camps will take place in the School of Performing Arts, located in the Charlottetown Centre on the Prince of Wales Campus.
Albert Roche, Director of Athletics and Recreation at Holland ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ, said the two camps are welcome additions to the popular ’Canes Camps offerings.
“We are delighted to partner with SoPA to offer these special camps and expand our traditional offerings to appeal to a broader range of participants. Both Craig and Sara are exceptionally gifted instructors, and we believe the campers will truly excel in this environment. We see this as a perfect opportunity to bring our best people to the forefront in our efforts to engage our youth and create further community engagement.”
The cost for each camp is $250 per week ($200 for the July 4-7 camp as it’s a four-day week) with only 15 spaces available per week.
