Students entering the Culinary Arts program at Holland ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ can now apply for a new $5,000 entrance bursary. The bursary is in memory of Chef Linda Hellingman, a talented and esteemed chef who, at the time of her passing in 2021, was a much-loved instructor at (CIC).
The bursary was established by Linda’s family as a testament to her deep commitment and support to students who demonstrated an enthusiasm for culinary arts.
“Linda loved her students, her fellow colleagues, and work at the college,” said her sister Tricia Hellingman. “She not only shared her knowledge of culinary arts, but also generously provided encouragement and help to her students over nearly 25 years as a Chef Instructor at the CIC. Through this bursary, Linda’s life and legacy will live on in shaping the futures of aspiring chefs.”
Through the Chef Linda Hellingman endowment, the bursary will fund an ongoing award to help students who might not otherwise have the financial resources to realize their dreams of becoming a chef. The endowment was established at the Holland ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Foundation through a $100,000 estate gift in addition to memorial donations made by Linda's family, friends, and colleagues.
Chef Austin Clement, Program Manager at The Culinary Institute of Canada, who worked alongside Linda for many years, said that Linda’s passing has been difficult for staff and students who are still mourning the loss of a colleague, a teacher, and a friend.
“It was bittersweet to share recently with our team that Linda’s legacy will be ongoing here at The Culinary Institute of Canada through this significant bursary. We have so many fond memories of Linda pitching in, working with students, and encouraging others that it feels fitting to see her name honoured and remembered in a way that benefits students for years to come.”
Incoming Culinary Arts students can now apply for the inaugural at hollandcollege.com under awards and scholarships. The application deadline for 2022 is March 31.
